New project: Adoptive T cell transfer and vaccination as treatment for stage IV melanoma in patients

News source:
RCT

RCT starts financing a new project of the Leids University Medical Centre (Netherlands). These Dutch researchers investigate Adoptive T cell transfer and vaccination as treatment for stage IV melanoma in patients. The activation and expansion of tumor reactive T cells outside a patient’s body and their subsequent re-infusion (adoptive cell transfer (ACT)) is at this moment the most effective approach to induce objective anti-tumor responses in end-stage metastasized melanoma patients. In this study patients will also be vaccinated with their own tumor cells in order to increase the in vivo effectiveness of transferred T cells even more.
