ESMO presents its new President Dr. Martine Piccart

We are proud to announce that Dr. Martine Piccart, an active member of our own Scientific Advisory Board, is now appointed ESMO President 2012-2013!

Being an active member of many professional organizations, Dr. Piccart has developed a lot of expertise with respect to drug development, clinical trials and oncology in general. She is, for instance, past-president of the European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and recently served on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Board.

We are certain that Dr. Piccart’s 2 years of ESMO presidency will make a real difference in cancer care in Europe. This is illustrated in the video where she briefly explains her priorities, of which the following three have a high priority level:

  • Reduce the inequalities in cancer care in Europe
  • Prepare the next generation of medical oncologists
  • Increase the number of patients included in clinical trials in Europe to at least 5% of all cancer patients
