These guides for patients have been prepared by Reliable Cancer Therapies (RCT) as a service to patients, to help patients and their relatives better understand the nature of cancer and appreciate the best treatment choices available according to the type of cancer. We recommend patients to ask their doctors what tests or types of treatments are needed for their type and stage of disease.
The medical information described in these documents is based on the clinical practice guidelines of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). The guides for patients have been produced in collaboration with ESMO and are disseminated with the permission of ESMO. They have been written by a medical doctor and reviewed by two oncologists from ESMO including the lead author of the corresponding clinical practice guidelines for professionals. They have also been reviewed by patients’ representatives from ESMO’s Cancer Patient Working Group.
Currently Guides for Patients are available for Breast cancer, Endometrial cancer, Acute myeloid leukemia, Melanoma, Prostate cancer and Stomach cancer. Further Guides for Patients will be available on a regular basis and the texts will be updated based on changes in the ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines.
